The exhaust fumes produced by cars, motorcycles and heavy vehicles contain a high quantity of harmful substances. It is therefore essential to equip your workshop with adequate exhaust gas extraction systems in order to protect the health of your workers and meet safety regulations. But which extraction system should you install to have a safe working environment?

A well-designed exhaust gas extraction system allows you to better perform your daily work and protect mechanics from damage due to the inhalation of harmful substances. For this reason, it is imperative to make sure you have a high-performance extraction system.

What, however, is the most convenient investment for a garage shop? There is no single answer that is suitable for all garages. Choosing the type of extraction system that best suits your workshop is not easy since there are several factors that come into play.

Here’s a small guide from WORKY.

Workshop size and layout

Available space is one of the most significant factors that influence the choice of the exhaust gas extraction system.

A medium-large sized workshop can accommodate any type of fixed, sliding or underfloor system. A small workshop can opt for mobile, compact but highly efficient systems, or a fixed system (or underfloor) custom designed by professionals.

The shape of the building also greatly influences the choice: to cite an example, a workshop with very high ceilings may opt for an underfloor extraction system, rather than a fixed or sliding system. This facilitates system installation as much as possible.

Number of workstations and frequency of extraction system use

The more workstations there are in the service garage (that is, the more vehicles are being maintained at the same time), the more the required extraction power increases.

Sliding extraction systems are able to cover multiple work areas since they slide to the required workstation. This optimizes costs and exhaust gas extraction is concentrated where it is really needed.

Underfloor extraction systems, on the other hand, are the ideal solution for extracting vehicle exhaust gases in work areas where this is not required very often.

For a service garage or body shop that requires very few localized extraction interventions, mobile systems are the most suitable choice.

Type of vehicles serviced and offered services

The type of service center is also important since the quantity of gases emitted changes significantly depending on whether it is a service garage or a body shop.

Even the type of vehicles in the workplace matters.

For example if mainly motorcycles are serviced, compact systems -such as hose reels- are often recommended. If heavy-duty vehicles (farm vehicles, trucks, etc.) are serviced, a system with more specific accessories will be required, as for example extraction arms.

Extraction system price range

When choosing an exhaust gas extraction system for car repair shops, prices are relevant. They depend on the size, features and type of installation accordingly.

It also depends on the building features, for example when it is not possible to install an exposed system and an underfloor system is chosen for reasons of aesthetics or space optimization.

To have the absolute certainty of choosing the most suitable exhaust gas extraction system for your needs, the solution is always this: rely on industry experts who, thanks to the experience and constant pursuit of innovation, will be able to advise and design the perfect extraction system.
